A14-843
A reprint of the quarto volume of 173 pages containing the minor poems of Dr. Beaumont. The manuscript is owned by Professor Palmer of Harvard and is reprinted under the auspices of the English department of Wellesley college. "Relying chiefly on Gee and correcting some errors of Grosart by the way, Miss Robinson has incorporated in her introduction an excellent account of Beaumont's quiet and in the end not unprosperous career." "The editor of this valuable contribution to the scholar's library and the public libraries to which students go, has done her work well. Her introduction is not only careful, it is very interesting--in fact much more so than the poetry of Joseph Beaumont." J. M.

"Miss Robinson's editorial care in bringing out the volume is commendable, but she has fallen into the too common error of editors in finding parallels and suggesting borrowings on the most unconvincing coincidences of language."

"A scholarly and painstaking fervor, not unlike that which actuated the small group of seventeenth century lyrists who turned from Spenserian idealism and romance to the celebration of God and His good works, is the pleasant characteristic of this edition."
